What the Bible says about...
the two deaths

The Facts

The Data

There are two "deaths" described in the Bible.

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" (Heb. 9:27).

"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (Rev. 20:6).

The second death is suffered by those who are part of the "second resurrection" (which is the resurrection of the wicked; see the two resurrections).

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death" (Rev. 20:14).

The "lake of fire" causes the second death.

The second death is the punishment for sin.

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death" (Rev. 21:8).

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Rev. 20:15).

Men will be resurrected after the first death.
All who have died, both the righteous and the wicked, will be resurrected. See the return of Jesus Christ to planet earth and the two resurrections.
There is no resurrection from the second death.
See the fate of the wicked.
